Program Features
-
All new students will sit a placement test
on the first day of the program to evaluate their written and
spoken Chinese skills. Students will be placed in one of nine
different class levels according to their test results: Intro1/2/3,
Intermediate 1/2/3 or Advanced 1/2/3.
-
The first week of class is a trial period,
during which students can try classes in different levels and/or
taught by different teachers. At the end of the trial week, the
student list of every class will be finalized and there will be
no further class transfers within the semester.
-
The curriculum covers listening, speaking,
written Chinese, grammar and comprehensive reading in a balanced
manner. Homework is assigned under varied methods with specific
purposes by teachers teaching different subjects.
-
In addition to the regular classes in the morning,
elective classes are offered in subjects such as correcting pronunciation
of spoken Chinese, Chinese character writing, newspaper reading,
Chinese calligraphy and painting, learning a traditional Chinese
musical instrument, etc. Semester students can sign up for one
elective class for free. Additional elective classes will require
payment to the university.
-
During the semester, students are required
to take part in a language application project organized by the
university, which is aimed at enhancing students' abilities in
Chinese communication and deepening their understanding of Chinese
culture. The project will involve students in interviewing local
Chinese families and visiting emerging Chinese businesses in renowned
tourist cities around Shanghai, including Suzhou and Yangzhou.
All associated expenses are paid by the university.
