About BLCU
Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) is the most well-known
university in China in the field of teaching Chinese language and
culture to foreign students. With over 40 years experience of teaching
Chinese as a second language, BLCU attracts an excess of 6000 students
from more than 160 countries around the world each year.
Distinguishing itself from other
Chinese universities by its unique cultural atmosphere of diversity,
BLCU is not only one of the most famous universities for language
acquisition but also an ideal platform for cross-cultural communication.
BLCU provides a variety of educational
programs ranging from short-term training and long-term (full academic
year) language programs under both regular and intensive streams
to degree courses for Bachelor, Master and PhD.

Language Program Introduction
The non-degree programs of BLCU consist of short-term courses (one
academic semester or less) with durations of 4 weeks, 5 weeks, 6 weeks,
8 weeks, 12 weeks and 20 weeks; and long-term courses with durations
of one or two academic years. Certificates are issued by BLCU to students
who successfully complete and pass the entire course.
Short-term courses are the most popular choices for international
students. There are two types of short-term courses available varying
in the intensity of study: the regular course
and the intensive course. Regular courses
consist of 20 hours of class per week, 4 hours every day from 8 am
to 12 noon, Monday through Friday; while intensive courses consist
of 30 hours of class per week, 6 hours every day from 8 am to 12 noon
and from 2 pm to 4 pm. The intensive course are offered to students
in the Beginner and Intermediate streams. (N.B. The intensive stream
is not offered to Advanced students). The levels are explained below:
Long-term courses are based on 20
hours of class per week. Intensive hours are not available for long-term
courses.
If you have any further questions
concerning the difference between regular and intensive courses, answers
and advice can be found in our FAQ
section. Alternatively, feel free to contact a China Unipath customer
service consultant via our Online
Inquiry Form or send us an email at info@chinaunipath.com.

-
After registration at the university, all new
students are required to take a placement test consisting of writing
and speaking in order to enable the faculty to select the appropriate
class difficulty level for every student.
-
BLCU is famous for the intensity of its Chinese
immersion teaching methodologies. Teachers may teach in English
at the beginning of a course to help students slowly adjust to
the new environment, but most classes will be taught in Chinese
a few days after the course starts.
-
Students are taught both Pin Yin and Chinese
simplified characters. Homework is assigned on a regular basis
and periodic quizzes are held in class in addition to mid-term
and final examinations. (Students attending courses of 12 weeks
and 20 weeks are required to take mid-term and final examinations
to obtain their certificate.)
-
Speaking, listening, reading and writing are
properly balanced in the course. Students can focus on a specific
aspect based on individual expectations after class.
-
Each class has less than 20 students. The number
varies due to the results of the placement test and the transfer
of students after a few trial classes at the beginning of the
course.
-
Beyond the language programs, other departments
(i.e. Physical Education Department and Arts Departments) also
offer a variety of extracurricular courses including: Tai Ji Quan,
San Da, Chinese calligraphy, Chinese painting, Er Hu and other
Chinese traditional musical instrument courses. For students on
are our Smart
Service Package and Basic
Service, our staff will provide you with the information
of courses upon your arrival and assist you to get enrolled.
Program Schedule & Fees
Schedules and tuition fees for short-term and long-term
courses are outlined in the tables below.
Important points to note:
-
The tuition fees presented in the schedules
cover tuition, study materials and a sightseeing trip to Tiananmen
Square or the Great Wall organized by BLCU. Please
note that China Unipath does not charge students the tuition fees
listed below. The fees are for your reference only. Each
new student will need to pay these fees in full to the university
on the day they register at BLCU in person. For your full study
budget (tuition plus accommodation), refer to our handy Study
Budget Calculator. For students on our
Smart Service Package
or Basic
Service, China Unipath will provide on-site guidance
to assist students in completing payment to the university as well
as other registration procedures.
-
We strongly suggest early applications as BLCU
programs are often filled up before the official deadline.
-
Tuition fees have been rounded to the closest
USD from RMB. Please be aware that actual figures are subject to
change due to fluctuations in the foreign exchange rate. We will
ensure the fees accurately reflect the current exchange rate as
much as possible.
-
China Unipath also provide services to students
