Shopping Hotspots in Beijing

Wang Fu Jing

Wangfujing Street (Wángfǔjǐng Dàjiē 王府井大街) is a long stretch of shops, home to a myriad of stores, boutiques, food stalls and charming outdoor cafes. It is frequented by many locals, both from within Beijing and outer China, and tourists who are either looking to satisfy their shopaholic tendencies or just simply want to wind down after a hard day's walk -- sipping coffee in a cafe and watching the flow of pedestrians go by.

Booklovers could spend an entire day in the two huge bookstores of Wangfujing, one of which houses a multi-level establishment of Foreign Language Books at very reasonable prices. Books include fiction, non-fiction and textbooks written in a variety of world languages (English, French, German, Persian, Japanese, Korean, just to name a few).

There are also many traditional Old Beijing stores selling silk fabric, calligraphy brushes and inks, collectible chopsticks, jade pieces, tea, silk/cotton handmade shoes, Chinese-style clothing, jewellery, souvenir articles, and much more. For tourists who are after some souvenir photos, there are several large bronze sculptures erected throughout the street that depict the life of Beijing-ers in the days of Old Beijing.

For a complete shopping paradise, step into the amazing Oriental Plaza (Dōngfāng Xīntiāndì 东方新天地)! Big name brands include Tiffany & Co., Hugo Boss, Louis Vuitton, Giorgio Armani, Paul Smith, Aquascutum, Calvin Klein... the list is endless. As will your shopping surely be.
